| Fuerteventura
is the oldest and second largest of all the Canary Islands with
only a 100km separating the 'Punta de la Entallada' from the Cape
Juby in Morroco on the African continent. The Island itself is small
- approximately 98km long and 30km across at the widest point and
is a paradise for those wanting a beach holiday with its sand dunes
and 152 long sandy beaches. Fuerteventura, of all the Canary Islands,
has the biggest selection of beaches and resorts, offering something
for everyone.
Indeed, Fuerteventura benefits from some of the
most impressive beaches in the whole of Europe, and provides many
varieties of beach holiday. Some are quiet and secluded beaches
with remote spots favoured by nudists and nature lovers, others
are packed with tourist activity. There are child-friendly beaches,
surfing beaches, some with black sand and some with white.
Fuerteventura also provides hive of activity for
watersports enthusiasts, and the rich marine life in the waters
surrounding the island attracts scuba divers, big game fishermen
and sailors from all over the world. During July the island hosts
the P.W.A world windsurfing speed and slalom event at Sotavento
in the south.
Boat trips provide an opportunity to see dolphins,
whales and turtles or scuba diving allows you to explore the magical
underwater world of volcanic sea beds, wrecks and reefs inhabited
by rays, moray eels, sharks, barracuda and a myriad of other marine
life. You can also take a short boat trip over to the small island
of Los Lobos (only 6sqkm) and really get away from it all, or a
ferry to Lanzarote.
The island benefits from being on the same latitude
as Florida and Mexico, providing it with three thousand hours of
sunshine a year, make Fuerteventura an ideal holiday resort for
everyone.
